Pairings

TSHFT matches will be matched using the Winner vs. Winner method based on Battle Points (BPs)

See below for battle points breakdown.

All parings will also respect the following principles as much as possible during each match up.

1. No player should play the same opponent twice in the event.
2. No player should play a player from the same store/club/region in the first two rounds
3. No player should play against the same army if it can be avoided.

Please notify the EO immediately if a player is paired up against the preceding principles during any of his match up.

(updated Sep 12, 2008)

The current TSHFT will adopt the following team format to avoid matching up players who are from the same store/region.

Each team will be consisted of no more than 3 players.  A store/region may sponsor multiple teams if they all meet the requirement above.

No team members will be matched against each other during the event unless there is no possible matches with a +10/-10 difference in battle points.

Rules Query

All games will follow the rules in 8th Warhammer Fantasy Battles rule book for WHFB and The 5th Edition Warhammer 40,000 rule book for WH40k. Current GW FAQ's will be in effect.

All Q&A raised in game will use the following steps:
Each player has 2 min to look up the rules to try to get to a resolution.
or Call a judge over and use the Quick Reference Sheet provided for a ruling.
or Call the Event Organizer for a final ruling.
Arguing with either the judge or the EO may penalize a player’s sportsman score.

Scoring

The placements of the tournament will be decided based on game points.  Break down follows,

Due to the reintroduction of scenario plays in the 2008 GT circuit, TSHFT too will change its format to better aid our tournament players.

The battle points above have been updated on par with the current GT scoring system and a maximum bonus of 3 bonus Battle Points will be awarded to each player based on the scenario.  This way, no player's tournament will be ruined after a game of horrible dice rolls.

Warhammer 40K BP Breakdown (Max 20 per Rd)

 Draw                                      9

 Loss                                      6

 Secondary Objectives              6 (Max)

Tertiary Objectives                   2

Due to the nature of 5th edition rules which results frequent draws matches.  TSHFT will be adapting a secondary objectives system to give us a better understanding of how our players fair in a competitive gaming environment.

Sportsmanship (total 50)

A player starts the event with 2 set of sportsmanship points (40/10).

The first 40 pts are based on players’ feedback:
Every player will mark whether they had a good/bad game after each match.
1 bad game = -0 pt
2 bad games = -5 pts
3 bad games = -10 pts
4 bad games = -20 pts
5 bad games = -40 pts

The player should rate his experience with the game as a whole when scoring sportsmanship.  If a player has little chance of having fun during the match due to opponent’s list, he is welcome to mark his opponent down in this section.   However, the player MUST give precise reason(s) why he felt that he did not have fun against the opponent’s list.

The second 10 pts are based on event’s staff’s feedback:
A player starts the event with 10 pts and gets deducted for penalties.  The penalty list consists but does not exhaust to the following:

- 2 for early starts (not include terrain placements if any) and/or late arrivals
- 1 for violating the 2 min rule and delaying the game
- 2 for arguing excessively with the Staff on rulings
- 5 for disrespecting any staff
- 10 for damaging any property(s) belong to the venue or the staff’s (Plus any monetary compensations / fine)
*Any penalties will result a warning from the event organizer, repeating violations will result in player expulsions from the event*.

Painting (total 50)

All models MUST be assembled and primed and miniatures should be painted (3 colors) and based.  Use of non-GW products may be used if fitting the theme of the army and representational of the units/characters they replace.  Please contact the event organizer prior to avoid on site confusion. Conversions are highly encouraged, just be sure to let your opponent know what they represent clearly before the match starts.  Break down follows:

Color Choice (CC / CC+)

CC  (1~5)
This should be mandatory for any army that wishes to get placed fairly in any official event.  Every model is expected to have at least 3 colors for base colors.  The player will receive partial points for each 20% models completed. (1 ~ 5pts)

CC+ (1~5)
This category rewards players who have taken extra time and planning and had chosen a thematic color for his army (concurrent with the AB or innovative theme for the army as a whole).  For army which are heavily converted or run on abstract concept, a piece of writing accompanying the army list won’t be a bad choice.  Please, no essays.  The player will receive partial points for every 20% models completed.

Basing (BS / BS+)

BS  (1~5)
This should be mandatory for any army that wishes to get placed fairly in any official event.  Every model is expected to be flocked, sanded, and/or painted a different color from the black plastic bases supplied from the box.  The player will receive partial points for each 20% models completed. (1 ~ 5pts)

BS+ (1~5)
This category rewards players who have taken extra time and efforts in making scenic bases to display his models.  The concept of scenic bases ranges from painted rocks, static grass, to fully sculpted sceneries.  The player will receive partial points for every 20% models completed.

Conversion (CV / CV+)

CV  (1~5)
This category rewards players who have taken extra time and efforts in making his models unique through conversions.  The players are judged on efforts rather than techniques.  This can be as simple as weapon swaps to as grand as scratch building a center piece.  The player will receive partial points for every 10% models completed.

CV+ (1~5)
This category rewards players who have taken extra time and efforts in making his entire army unique through conversions.  The players are judged on efforts rather than techniques.  This can be as simple as weapon swaps to as grand as scratch building a center piece.  The player will receive partial points for every 10% models completed beyond 50% of his model counts.

Painting (PT / PT+)

PT  (1~5)
This category rewards players who have taken respect to the hobby element of the game.  The players’ models are expected to show quality beyond simple base coating.  Highlights, shadowing, dry brushing, detailed linings are all good ways to secure points in this category.  The player will receive partial points for every 20% models completed.

PT+ (1~5)
This category rewards players who have demonstrated exemplary techniques when it comes to painting.  Non-metallic metal, super details (eyes/symbols/decals), blending, free hand (well executed) are some of the examples of good techniques beyond the basic.  The player will receive partial points for every 20% models completed.

Wow Factor (WF)

(2~10)

No matter how good a modeler/painter a player thinks of himself, it means very little unless his works can creates some impacts on his opponent.  This category rewards those players who has taken time creating a center piece, a display tray, or crazy conversions that grabs his opponent’s eyes before the match starts.  The player will receive 2 points for each Wow vote that he gets from each opponent that he played against.

Bonus (BN)

(2)

Up to 2 points will be rewarded to players who have brought special display for their armies or unique objective counters to the game (well made).
